Third generation builder Kirk Gronvold began his career early, working side-by-side with his father. After graduating from Seattle University in 1985, Kirk chose to continue the family tradition of providing quality craftsmanship. For 22 years, he worked in the family-owned business, expanding the services offered and gaining extensive experience and knowledge.
In 2007, he launched Blue Water Design Build LLC to focus on design build services. The company provides homeowners, builders and developers with quality craftsmanship for new construction and remodeling. A home services division provides home repair and maintenance with the same commitment to quality.
As the owner of Blue Water Design Build, Kirk continually strives to exceed customer expectations. He believes that making homeowners dreams come true is a magical task that can be accomplished through hard work, attention to detail and establishing clear communication with the customer and the professionals working on the project.
Kirk and his wife Donna are raising their three children in the Seattle area. The family shares a passion for boating. Together, Kirk and Donna ensure that a work/life balance includes plenty of time on the water.
Donna has been a part of the design team at Blue Water Design Build since 2007. She has worked with clients on entire home renovations along with kitchen and bath remodels.
Donna enjoys helping clients find design inspirations and selections of materials to fit their design aesthetic. Her philosophy starts with enhancing the features of the home, while collaborating a new vision of their own. She enjoys working with clients on projects to help alleviate the stress of design decisions, sourcing, along with guiding them to bring together a cohesive design that is interesting and inviting to live in every day. She values the trust that clients put in her and always keeps in mind their style and vision. Creating surroundings that are interesting and serene.
In her spare-time she enjoys cooking new dishes, entertaining family and friends, wine tastings, reading, boating and travel.
Dana brings over 10 years of design experience to Blue Water Design Build LLC. ranging from remodels to full renovations. With a background in a technical environment, she’s managed over 250 employees and responsible for overall project management on multiple projects that interfaced across all company disciplines.
Dana’s specialty of spatial planning, color consulting and overall design makes her a valuable asset and team member. She efficiently and effectively keeps projects on time and on budget. Dana begins each project with listening to the client and really understanding their ideas and concerns. Addressing each one Dana always completes every project with a happy client and their dream fulfilled.
Education: Bachelor’s degree from University of Washington and a MBA degree from University of Southern California.
Kirsten joined Blue Water Design Build part time in 2018 helping with office and accounting tasks and in 2021 came on as our full time Office Manager. She works closely with the entire team gathering all needed information for future and ongoing projects.
Kirsten enjoys spending time with her family along with her cat Devin and dog Kingsley. She also enjoys exploring the PNW, boating and traveling.
Katie joined the Blue Water Design Build team as a Project Coordinator in June of 2021. She has an extensive background in property management, client service, and project management. Katie’s strategic planning and critical thinking allow her to manage cross-functional teams and ensure projects are successfully completed. Katie is well versed in permitting, design functions, and maintaining timelines. As a key contributor to the Blue Water team, her goal is to create efficiencies, hold team members accountable, and ensure a seamless experience for her clients.
In her free time Katie can be found hiking, watching the Sounders and Seahawks games, and spending time with her family.
Mely joined the Blue Water Design Build team as a Construction Coordinator in 2025. She has a strong background in project management and coordination, bringing a keen eye for detail and organization to every project. Mely excels in forward-thinking coordination and problem-solving, allowing her to streamline collaboration across teams and maintain project momentum. Mely is well-versed in scheduling and logistics, ensuring that project timelines are met efficiently while coordinating resources and workflows. As an integral part of the Blue Water team, Mely focuses on optimizing processes, fostering strong teamwork, and ensuring a smooth and stress-free experience for clients.
In her free time, Mely enjoys spending time with her family, dancing, hiking, exploring the outdoors, and traveling.
Duane has been Blue Water Design Build’s Maintenance Manager for 20 years. With a background in electronics repair and maintenance there simply isn’t anything that Duane can’t fix! Duane has extensive skills in appliance repair, electrical, drywall install and patching, flooring install and repair and everything in between.
Duane is known to always have a smile, positive outlook and a can-do attitude. Clients are consistently impressed by his work and ability to exceed their expectations.
Karson has been a dedicated member of the Blue Water Design Build team since 2015, specializing in apartment maintenance and finish work. With a keen eye for detail and a strong work ethic, he ensures that every project is completed with precision and quality.
Outside of work, Karson enjoys staying active through working out, basketball, and football. He values time spent with friends and family, always making the most of every moment. His passion for craftsmanship and commitment to excellence make him a valued asset to the Blue Water Design Build team.
Jason is a seasoned Senior Foreman at Blue Water Design Build, bringing expertise and leadership to the team since 2025. With a hands-on approach and a keen eye for detail, he ensures every project runs smoothly, from start to finish. His dedication to quality craftsmanship and teamwork makes him an invaluable part of the company.
Outside of work, Jason enjoys hitting the slopes and spending time in the great outdoors. Whether skiing in the winter or exploring nature year-round, he brings the same passion and energy to his adventures as he does to his work.
Bobby joined Blue Water Design Build in 2024, bringing nearly a decade of hands-on experience in the construction industry. Skilled in all aspects of the trade, he has a particular passion for finish carpentry, where craftsmanship and detail come together.
When he’s not on the job, Bobby enjoys spending quality time with his family and exploring great food. His dedication to both his craft and his community makes him a valued part of the Blue Water team.
Hector started working with Blue Water Design Build in 2022 with a background in construction spanning all phases of the building process, from groundwork to finish work. He takes pride in being hands-on at every stage of the project, ensuring quality and efficiency throughout. Outside of work, Hector enjoys spending time with his family and creating memorable experiences with his two young sons along with exploring new restaurants.
Jack has been a dedicated team member at Blue Water Design Build since 2021. He began as a driver and, through hard work and commitment, has advanced to the role of apprentice carpenter. With a background in fence building, painting, and design work, Jack brings a well-rounded skill set to every project.
Outside of work, Jack enjoys golfing, surfing, and skiing, embracing an active lifestyle that reflects his passion for the outdoors. His hands-on experience and enthusiasm for craftsmanship make him a valuable asset to the Blue Water Design Build team.
